China I

China. Hot, hard heat, dusty light filled with particulates. The clasp and scramble of Beijing traffic, the ever-spreading chequerboard of offices and flats. A jetlagged night on the sleeper train, rocked by well-sprung bogies on rails of steel. Out of the window, factories like neon monsters belch flame; dawn brings villages of shattered granite where peasants till a thin layer of brown earth, sifting and re-sifting the millenia. Everything at once everyday and not: Cookham around every corner, as Stanley Spencer put it. More soon, I hope.

Hope you can post some pictures?

Mr Callicoonist, the Extollager cannot ignore the repeated requests of a large proportion of his regular audience, ie you. Do you by any chance know anything about how Flickr works? Embedding pictures in a WordPress blog is a painful process, but I could set up Flickr links to related albums. My only worry is resolution: do you know whether Flickr automatically reduces images to a reasonably small size, or does one have to do it oneself?
